I suppose no. I had a MicroTAC, and a lot of mobile phones have been in my hands. I do not like mobile phones very much, but I had at least ten devices, from the MicroTAC to iPhone.
Am I still using e-Mail, yes, but some instant messaging tools like WhatsApp and the my preferred one: Telegram. I am not using telex and fax any more.
Yes, sometime I am still using a pen or a pencil, I like them.
It is clear in my mind that the use of e-mail was growing and growing from the end of ’80s, we are speaking of thirty years ago.
Is you car the same of thirty years ago?
Is your mobile phone the same of thirty years ago?
Is your computer the same of thirty years ago?
Why we are managing business processes in the same way of thirty years ago?
Today the key of success are communication and collaboration, and often we do not have tools to do it, or we have and do not use them.
Information must be shareable and usable.
I we write a letter or an e-mail to an our correspondent, we share information, but information is not usable. To make information usable we have to digitize it into a computer system, then it is really usable.
You can use it to manage a contingent problem (perhaps the mail may be enough), you can use digitized data to plan your work (mail is not enough any more), you can use digitized information for future analysis in which all data owned by you will be correlated (Big Data analysis is scary? Do not use this term).
The best way to do it is to keep always information digitized and use a business rule manager to govern the events and optimize business processes.
So, you’ll be able to plan your jobs and you’ll allow your business partner to do it gaining in efficiency, effectiveness and saving you money.
